Employee Spotlight: Matherin Toth-Nahm, Mental Health Professional at The Lodge

What do you like most about working at LVF?
What I value most about working at LVF is the opportunity to collaborate with a dedicated treatment team to ensure the best possible care and outcomes for the individuals we support. The environment is incredibly supportive and team-focused, and it truly feels like a family away from home, which I deeply appreciate.
What is your best memory at LVF?
One of my favorite memories at LVF is opening my own little ‘nail salon’ at The Lodge. After all groups are finished for the day, I offer guests the opportunity to have their nails painted if they would like. It may seem like a small gesture, but it truly means a great deal to them. It gives them a moment to feel pampered and to enjoy some self-care. Seeing the smiles on their faces when their nails are finished is incredibly rewarding.
How has your career grown since working at LVF? Tell us your LVF story, including previous positions you’ve held!
I’ve been with LVF for two years and five months. I began as a crisis worker at the Lower Bucks Hospital location, rotating through various shifts including nights, days, full time, and part time while completing my master’s degree in counseling. I have now been in my current full-time role as a Mental Health Professional for a year, and it has been a wonderful experience. Navigating both positions has allowed me to grow professionally and to play a more direct role in the care provided to the individuals we serve.
What’s a “day in the life” like for you at LVF?
A typical day for me begins at seven in the morning with a shift report from the night staff, ensuring I am fully updated on how our guests are doing. From there, my day is spent facilitating groups and offering direct, individualized support. We play games, do crafts, cook, take walks, practice DBT skills, and so much more. I aim to support each guest in the ways that are most meaningful and helpful to them.
Name a book you recently read or a movie you recently watched that you would recommend and why!
A book I recommend to everyone is The Four Agreements. It offers powerful and meaningful principles in a way that is simple, clear, and easy to apply to everyday life. I find myself referring to its teachings often, and the wisdom it provides has had a genuinely positive impact on how I move through the world.
Tell us about your pet/pets!
I have a pet alligator named Apollo. I know it may sound unusual, but he is remarkably calm and gentle. He is about ten years old, five and a half feet long, and weighs over fifty pounds. Growing up with alligators has taught me a great deal about the power of love and respect. These are the values Apollo has known his entire life, and it shows in his behavior and the way he interacts with us. Owning him serves as a constant reminder not to judge a book by its cover and how kindness and compassion can make a profound difference.
