Employee Spotlight: Katie Flynn, Outpatient Clinical Coordinator
What do you like most about working at LVF?
What I like most about working at LVF is partnering with the community and universities to deliver responsive services that address the community’s needs and nurture the next generation of practitioners. I also appreciate the encouragement to develop and learn new skills that interest me as a therapist, enabling me to better serve our clients.
What brought you to LVF when you initially applied?
I applied to LVF because I wanted to work for an agency with a strong community presence and a commitment to supporting the clinical and professional growth of its staff. When I arrived at LVF, it reminded me of the agency I worked at in Connecticut before moving to Pennsylvania, which I missed. Walking into the lobby of LVF felt familiar, just like my old agency, and during my interview I was excited and hopeful I could join an agency that felt familiar and incredibly welcoming that shares my values and passion for serving a local community.
How has your career grown since working at LVF? Tell us your LVF story, including previous positions you’ve held!
I joined LVF in June 2019 as an outpatient therapist. Initially, I was focused on providing therapeutic support to my clients, helping them navigate their challenges and achieve their personal goals. My commitment to their well-being and my passion for the therapeutic process fueled my dedication to the role. In 2022, I further advanced my career by becoming a staff supervisor. This role expanded my responsibilities and gave me the opportunity to oversee a larger team, ensuring that we maintained the highest standards of care for our clients. My supervisory role also involved mentoring and supporting our staff, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment. In 2023, when the position of clinical coordinator for the outpatient internship program became available, I eagerly applied. I was thrilled to be offered the position, as it aligned perfectly with my passion for working with interns and shaping the future of our profession. As the clinical coordinator, I have the privilege of overseeing the internship program, ensuring that our interns receive the best possible training and support. This role allows me to make a meaningful impact on both our interns and the clients they serve, which is incredibly fulfilling for me.
Overall, my journey at LVF has been marked by continuous growth and a deepening commitment to the field of therapy. I am excited to see what the future holds as I continue to support and guide our next generation of therapists.
What’s a “day in the life” like for you at LVF?
My day consists of meeting with clients for individual therapy, running my LGBTQIA+ Empowerment group, meeting with universities to develop new relationships or continuing to build on established relationships with current university partners for the OP internship program, interviewing prospective interns, and supporting current interns and staff.
What is your favorite hobby or pastime activity outside of work?
Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my 2 dogs, Clara and Dudley, watching the WNBA and women’s college basketball (Go UConn!), and tending to my garden in the summer.
