A Message from the CEO

Regarding the potential cuts to Medicaid

Valued Stakeholders,

I am writing to you today with an urgent message about the future of behavioral health care in our community. Lenape Valley Foundation’s mission is rooted in compassion, service, and the belief that every individual deserves access to high-quality mental health care and developmental support. That mission is potentially at risk.

Medicaid accounts for approximately 65% of our total operating budget and sustains 12 vital programs that serve nearly 7,000 children, adults, and families each year. These services include mental health treatment, crisis intervention, case management, and developmental disability supports— many of which are the only lifeline available to some of our most vulnerable community members.

Potential cuts to Medicaid could be devastating. Without stable and sufficient funding, the essential care that so many of you and your neighbors depend on is at risk. This would not only jeopardize individual health and safety—it would also place additional strain on emergency rooms, law enforcement, and public services that are already stretched thin and not equipped to manage complex behavioral health challenges. The ripple effects of such cuts would be profound: increased hospitalizations, homelessness, incarceration, and overall poorer outcomes for individuals and families.

Now more than ever, we must raise our collective voices to preserve—and strengthen—Medicaid. It is not just a funding source; it is the foundation of our ability to serve. Advocacy is essential, and we urge legislators to recognize Medicaid as a cornerstone of community health and economic efficiency. Lenape Valley Foundation stands ready to be a trusted resource and active partner in this work. We are eager to collaborate with policymakers, share insights, and contribute to effective solutions. To our staff, people we serve, and their loved ones, your voices are powerful. Sharing your stories helps demonstrate the real-world impact of Medicaid and why it must be protected. Click here to share your story with us to be used in our advocacy efforts >.

To our donors, your generosity becomes even more crucial during times of uncertainty. Your support fills critical gaps and ensures continuity of care. Click here to make a donation today > .

Together, we can protect what matters most: the health, well-being, and stability of our community. Thank you for your continued support of our mission.

Sincerely,
Dave Herold
Chief Executive Officer
